NIA Examination Requirements

Professional Practice Examinations (PPE); Finals I (Part I) or Finals II (Part II) Examinations.

NIA PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE EXAMINATIONS 

This examination is open to candidates in the following qualifications:

(a) Associate members of the Institute who have had a minimum of two years supervised post-qualification practice.

(b) Graduate Architects with M.Sc (Arch) or equivalent from .NIA-recognized institutions Overseas with a minimum of two years supervised post-qualification practice (Six months of which must have been spent in Nigeria).

(c) Candidates who are members of corresponding Institutes in-foreign Countries and who have practiced for a minimum of six months in Nigeria. .

(d) Candidates who have passed the NIA Finals II (Part 2) Examination with a minimum of 2 years cognate work experience thereafter.

(e) Candidates in all cases must be currently resident in Nigeria and also fully involved in Architectural practice under the supervision of a financial Full Member of the NIA who has a minimum of three years membership.

(f) Candidates for PPE re-sit papers must submit their application forms.

Requirements & Basic Conditions for ARCON Membership

The following basic qualifications shall be required for the various classes of membership listed below.

 Full Membership:

Full Members shall be holders of an accredited Masters Degree or equivalent qualification in Architecture obtained from any School of Architecture or institution in the Federation or abroad and who shall satisfy all the conditions for admission to Full Membership of the Institute.

Applicants to this class shall satisfy the following conditions:

(I) shall not be less than twenty-one years of age.

(ii) Shall have been an Associate Member

(iii) Must be actively engaged in the practice of Architecture,

(iv) Shall have satisfied all the requirements for Full Membership of the Nigerian Institute of Architects as stipulated in the Bye-Laws.

(v) Shall have had at least two years approved post qualification practical experience after which they must have passed the Professional Practice Competence Examination of the Institute, and shall also fulfill any other condition(s),which may be required by the Executive Council.

Associate Membership:

Applicants to this class shall satisfy the following conditions

(I) Associate Members shall be holders of an accredited Masters Degree or equivalent qualification in Architecture obtained from any School of Architecture or institution in the Federation or abroad and who shall satisfy all the conditions for admission to Associate

(ii) Associate Members shall have been Student and or Graduate Members of the Institute.

Graduate Membership:

Applicants to this class shall satisfy the following conditions:

(I) Graduate Members shall be holders of an accredited Bachelors degree or equivalent qualification in Architecture obtained from any School of Architecture or institution in the Federation or abroad and who shall satisfy all the conditions for admission to Graduate

(II) Graduate Members shall have been Student Members of the Institute, except Graduate applicants from schools outside Nigeria.

Architectural Technologist (HND):

Applicants to this class shall satisfy the following conditions:

(I) Architectural Technologist Members shall be holders of an accredited Higher National Diploma or equivalent qualification in Architecture obtained from any Polytechnic or institution in the Federation or abroad and who shall satisfy all the conditions for admission to Architectural Technologist Class of Membership of the Institute.

(II) Architectural Technologist Members shall have been Student Members of the Institute, except applicants from schools outside Nigeria.

Student Membership:

Applicants to this class shall fulfill the following conditions:

(I) Shall have obtained the minimum entry qualification (s) for the study of Architecture and shall have been enrolled into an accredited University in the Federation or abroad or

(II) Shall have been enrolled in an accredited HND architecture programme of a Polytechnic in the Federation or abroad. Applications forms for these various classes of membership can be obtained from the NIA website https://nia.ng/admission-and-exam/
